Eyes Only For You

Hello everyone, before we get started let’s just take a second to give a quick prayer. Pray for our country and our world as we are living in uncertain times, pray for our leaders as they are under immense pressure, pray for those families and individuals effected by hardships, and pray for those who are feeling lost or hopeless during all the craziness happening across the globe.
In the song “Eyes Only For You” the first line states that “You deserve my attention, you can have every thought in my mind.” There is so much to unpack in that one line but that’s a powerful way to start to a song. It sounds simple to just give our attention only to God right? To just turn to him for every decision and situation we encounter? That is a lot easier said than done if you ask me.

We’re taught to bring our problems and praise to the Lord all the time but so often when we’re confronted by opposition we don’t turn to God but rather worldly explanations or advice. If you look at the state of our nation right now you’re going to see panic and fear and worry. Read Philippians 4:6-7:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (NLT).

Comparing how the Bible teaches to react to hardships to the way the world is reacting, one thing is vastly different. We as Christians shall have peace that will guard us. We see so many people across the nation scared because they don’t posses the peace that we have. We are called to let the lord be our rest and our refuge. He should be our safe haven when everything is becoming confusing around us.

The main chorus says that, “I’ve got eyes only for You, Lord, all else fades away,” this is exactly what we need to strive for right now. Whether you’re stressed about school or about social problems or even if you’re in the midst of an internal struggle we can all use this advice from God. Let our sight be turned only to him, only to the one true peacemaker and all our opposition will be handled. God loves us and he cares for us, he sent Jesus to die on the cross so that our sins would be forgiven. We should always praise him for being a foundation that we can rely on in times of fear and anxiety and in times of joy and peace.

We need to give up our worries and doubts and let the Lord our God give us peace, no matter how hard that may be. Psalms 34:4 says, “I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.”

David here is praising the lord for his provisions and freedom he received. Why can’t we receive that very same calmness and peace the Lord gives? Well the best news is that we can and when we get that peace we need to praise God for being a gracious and loving God.

Lastly I just want to touch on one more line in the song that stuck out to me. “But I know He is here like wherever I go His presence just surrounds, through the valleys of shadows and death.” Amidst the pandemic and all the uncertainty regarding school and safety and just general well-being, we can rest assured that He is with us through it all! Remember that God is greater than the highs and lows. Whatever you’re worrying about or fearful of, talk to God and ask him for peace that surpasses all understanding. We need to have eyes only for the lord only then will all else fade away.

God is good and he will provide! Stay safe and stay healthy everyone.
